Chief's Welcome

Welcome to the Covington Fire Department.

As Fire Chief, it is my honor to serve the citizens of Covington alongside the dedicated men and women of this department. Since beginning my career here in 1998, I’ve had the privilege of growing both personally and professionally within this organization—from my first days as a firefighter to now leading the department as Chief.

The Covington Fire Department is built on a strong foundation of service, integrity, and community. We are committed to protecting life, property, and the environment through exceptional emergency response, fire prevention, public education, and continuous training. Every member of our team plays a vital role in delivering the highest level of care and professionalism to those we serve.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about our department. I invite you to explore our services, meet our team, and see how we are working every day to keep Covington safe and resilient. We look forward to the continued growth of our city and the opportunity to serve you.

Sincerely,
Joe Doss

Community Risk Reduction

  • We offer free home safety inspections for residents within the city limit. During an inspection we will check for...

Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms to make sure they are working properly and in the right locations.

         Electrical Hazards.

         Fire Risks.

         A family escape plan.

  • We offer free blood pressure screenings at the fire station. Walk-in, no appointment required. If the results fall outside of normal ranges, referrals and guidance to local medical resources are provided.

  • We are partnered with the American Red Cross and participate in statewide initiatives like the Sound The Alarm Campaign. Within the city limits, the program includes...

Door-to-door visits to install alarms, test  existing  units, and educate families on home fire safety.

Firefighters will perform home safety surveys during these installations.

No cost and no income restrictions.

*Reminder: Smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years, and batteries tested at least twice a year.
